The late Pope John Paul 2 was the first non - Vatican Pope in I guess about 450 years. Now, all the major candidates are non - Vatican.
There's an African, an Indian, an American and others in the chase. That's more variety than one would see on a menu!
It goes on to show the Pope's impact around the world. His 26 year old reign was full of glory, making the next Pope stronger as a leader. The times have passed since the Pope ruled Europe, but thanks to Pope John Paul 2, in a few centuries time, the Pope may be able to sit confidently on the throne of Europe having rid the world of wars and leaving us in peace...
